Before I joined the Positive Active Minds groups, I didn’t really understand my own feelings or what mental health meant. Sometimes I felt sad, anxious, or worried, and I didn’t know why or how to deal with it. I didn’t know that lots of other children felt the same way, and I often kept things to myself because I was scared people wouldn’t understand. I also didn’t think much about diversity or how everyone’s experiences can be different, so I didn’t know how to support others either.
Since coming to the groups, I have learned a lot about mental health. I’ve learned that it’s okay to feel sad, worried, or anxious sometimes, and that talking about my feelings can really help. I’ve learned ways to manage my worries, like taking deep breaths, doing activities I enjoy, and asking for help when I need it. The staff explain things in a way I can understand, and the activities make it easier to talk about my feelings without feeling judged.
I have also learned about diversity and why it’s important to respect and celebrate differences. I understand that everyone has their own experiences, and that some people might find things harder than others. This has helped me be more patient and kind to my friends and the people around me.
One of my favourite things has been learning how to spread awareness about mental health and diversity. We do projects and activities that help other children understand these topics too, and it feels good to know I can make a difference. I feel proud when I can help someone else understand that it’s okay to talk about their feelings or accept people for who they are.
Since joining the groups, I feel more confident about talking about my own feelings, more understanding of others, and more positive about myself. I know that mental health is important, everyone is different, and that I can help make the world a kinder, more understanding place.
