My journey began when I started volunteering on a mental health programme. This was related to my degree and I was looking for some experience. I found an advert for CLIMB 4 online and thought it sounded just like what I was looking for. I began volunteering on the Create the Tiger Take Away and Online project which involved working with people that were suffering with their mental health programme.
While I was volunteering, I was approached with regards to the STEPP Up Programme, I was asked if I was interested in personal development, support with CV writing and job applications and much more. This sounded like just the support I needed after finishing my degree so took the opportunity with both hands. During my time on the STEPP Up programme, I received 1-1 support with my CV as well as preparation support for future job interviews. Following this I started to also volunteer at after school clubs and holiday clubs.
As Christmas was approaching, a position became available at CLIMB 4, the role of Pre-School Activity Worker was published and I was interested in doing this as I thought it would build up my confidence, as well as give me experience and support the project. I applied and was offered this position and for the next three months worked on the PATCH Project as a Pre-School Online Activity worker. I was involved with making and creating of Activity packs, Online Content for the service users including ‘Story Time’ and Craft Corner’. This online activity reached many of our service users meaning that the services that CLIMB 4 offer outside of Lockdown were still available for the service users to do whilst in lockdown.
In February, the role of Trainee Mental Health Practitioner was released, I had recently completed my degree in Psychology with Counselling and had always had a strong interest in going into a role to do with mental health. I applied and was successful! I now work on the programme as a Trainee Mental Health Practitioner working with those that suffer with their mental health as well as those that wish to support those that suffer with their mental health or those that want to know more about mental health and want some training around the area.
Whilst at CLIMB 4 I have been offered many opportunities to develop myself further, each opportunity has led to something better. Volunteering at CLIMB 4 has given me the opportunity to work for a company that I feel very strongly about. I am thoroughly enjoying my journey at CLIMB 4 and cannot wait to see where it goes in the future.
